Our family was present when Big Bad Wolf first came to Manila in 2018. Back then, my daughter Monica was just a year and a half old, but she screamed with excitement when we entered the doors of the World Trade Center. I wasn’t really into books as much as my daughter was, but I couldn’t help but get excited with her seeing millions of brand-new books right before our eyes. Needless to say, we ended up hoarding toddler-friendly board books and interactive books.
We never missed a Big Bad Wolf book sale in Manila, even when it had to shift online because of the pandemic. I can’t deny that our regular visits rekindled my interest in reading!
On top of that, my daughter inspired me to pick up books again. She would often nag me, saying, “Mom, get off Instagram and start reading. You said it’s good to read, right?”
Of course, she’s right. It’s never too late to start again.
Let me share with you the books my daughter and I found interesting in this year’s Big Bad Wolf Book Sale in Manila. Check them out!
These days, anything related to Harry Potter brings a smile to my daughter’s face, so our top priority is finding Harry Potter-themed books! Monica is enjoying the series so far and after finishing book 4, she said Harry Potter is now one of her favorites! I see that it truly widens her imagination. We totally recommend this for young kids and adults, as well. Look at this boxed Harry Potter set we found!
There are also other Harry Potter activity books and guides; just be careful as some might have spoilers for those who are just starting to get hooked!
We also saw these books from I Can Read series which will surely be a hit for children. It has different levels appropriate for kids from every stage of reading development.
I’m so glad my daughter enjoys classics too. Take a look at BBW’s copies of The Little Prince, The Secret Garden, Oliver Twist, and Fabulous Five Adventures! Imaginative worlds, rich language, and morals can always be found in classic books so they’re really great to have at home.
Monica started loving chapter books when she was 5. That’s also when she truly embraced reading. Titles she find really interesting are Geronimo Stilton and Thea Stilton series, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Dork Diaries, Amelia Bedelia & Friends, and Bad Kitty among others. She’s thrilled to also find these at the Big Bad Wolf book sale!
She also enjoyed going through the reference books, too!
The likes of National Geographic Kids are always present in our shelves, so we definitely took these home.
If you’re ready for a lot of “Mommy, did you know that?” about the world and the outer space, you better check these out:
I love that the fair also showcases books on values and behavior, since it’s important to instill these to kids early on. The My Feelings and My Manners series are especially great for helping kids process their emotions.
After spending most time in children’s books, I also spent time looking for interesting books for my husband and I. Not that I am a big reader, but these ones I chose are definitely helpful in stepping up my reading game.
I’ve always been a fan of Mitch Albom, so I definitely added these two titles to my cart: The Next Person You Meet in Heaven and Finding Chika.
Paulo Coelho fans should celebrate too, as book sets at a more affordable price are also available for taking home!
Here are also some romance books to make me feel happy and emotional like Just Say Yes, Your Place or Mine?, PS I Love You, and The Couple.
I also find self-help books very helpful especially for us parents. One of my top picks is Sharenthood, because almost all of us are guilty in putting the digital footprints of our kids out there for many people to consume.
We live in the online world and as much as it greatly helps us living our lives, it has also become the source of our sadness and discontentment. I guess How to be Online & Also be Happy is really a great read to achieve balance.
This one is such a good find. I think this book, Listen, is good for someone like me who tends to get emotionally caught up then regret everything later on.
Who doesn’t need to be stress-free? I think many would also be interested to get this book, Everything I Wish I’d Known About Stress!
We had such a great time checking out the titles available for kids and adults.
Are we going back to the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale anytime soon to check out more titles? You bet!
