Parents, Bring Your Kids to Pelikula Pambata this Weekend!

A festival of Filipino-made films

Have you seen any Filipino-made film with your family recently? Buying a Museo Pambata ticket will allow you to experience a festival of animated and real-life Pinoy-made films through Pelikula Pambata. So yes, you won’t need to buy separate tickets for it, plus you get to experience not just one, but a lineup of quality films you can proudly call your own.

Here’s a sneak peek of some of the films featured in the festival:

  • Daisy (by Pepot Atienza, Aditii Dixit, and Shecit Aguilera) is a story about a little girl with petal skirts in a music box who produces musical sound through her movements. Without her knowing, the petals in her skirt falls off because of “eerie eyes.”
  • Ili-Ili (by John Clister Santos) tells about an expecting mother who likes to know more about parenting by a precious interview. Her own father, who had just suffered a heart attack, recollects their family’s history recorded on their treasured video camera.
  • Haidi (by Jericho Peria) is a tale where the titular character who had lost her I.D. card tries ingenious methods of going inside her school that avoids the security guard’s attention. This film finds out if she can finally make it in.
  • Kampana (by Mark Mendoza) is a story where a magical bell allows Padre Pi’s town to become prosperous, but the same can’t be said in other towns.
  • Papel (by Mariel Sayuno) is an experimental film that depicts the strength of our relationships with other people and how quickly it can change.

The festival also features the nine (9) films created by students of Pedro E. Diaz High School, and a screening of six (6) student thesis films from iAcademy, both happening on February 21.

What a way to introduce to your kids that genius knows no age!

A gateway to learning more about the Filipino culture

If you call yourself Batang 90s, then you might have stepped foot in Museo Pambata in Roxas Boulevard, Ermita, Manila in one of your educational trips in elementary school. You remember it as a museum with engaging and interactive displays, introducing you to people, places, and culture in the Philippines.

This time, Museo Pambata stages Pelikula Pambata not only to celebrate National Arts Month in the Philippines, but also to recognize the value of films as an effective way of introducing Filipino values and culture to our kids! With names, places, and themes which are distinctly Pinoy, our kids are in for a learning treat, all while enjoying the spectacle of a film.

A meet and greet with the makers and creators

Viewing the films is a treat in itself, and meeting the makers and creators make this treat twice as memorable! In the event, you’ll also get the chance to meet the filmmakers who have brought their creative ideas to life.

On February 22, get to meet Filipino-American director and animator Bobby Pontillas, who has had Oscar nominations to his name. The event will have a special screening of his animated feature, One Small Step, about a young girl who aspires to become an astronaut someday. A Q&A session will follow where you and your kids can ask more about his inspiration.

Bani & Mai LogroƱo of The Filipino Story Studio will also grace the event on February 22, as they showcase six episodes of The Filipino Story Animated Series that follow the lives of the Filipino people in an intuitive way. The couple will also answer any of your questions on documenting the Filipino way, and more!

So get ready with your list of questions as you prepare to join the festival!

A new way of bonding for the whole family

You may be huge film or history buffs as parents, and this weekend is the best opportunity to share that love with your kids. Not only will Pelikula Pambata be a perfect time for the whole family to come together, but it will also be a time to enjoy Pinoy movies that are educational and fun at the same time!

Don’t miss this chance to be a weekend to remember with your loved ones! Visit Museo Pambata’s Facebook and Instagram accounts for more details.
