- Do choose the right event for your child. You know best what your children are currently interested in, so use it as your guide in choosing what event to sign them up for. If you need more information regarding the activities, you can always ask the event organizers through their contact details.
- Do orient your child with the lineup of activities. If you have a school aged children, it’s best to let them know what to expect. Will you be allowed to join them in all activities? How long will the program take? What games and activities can they participate in? Giving them an idea about the event will help lessen their anxiety or prevent any heartbreak about to happen.
- Do ensure your child’s costume and your family values align. Spooky or scary costumes are more prominent during the Halloween or Trick or Treat season, but you don’t have to dress up your kids this way most especially if this doesn’t align with your family values. If and when your kids ask, take time to explain why you do not prefer them to wear certain costumes.
- Do talk about basic safety rules. Remind your kids that they should practice safety at all times, to not accept and immediately eat treats from people they don’t know, and to not push or hurt other kids in the name of fun and enjoyment.
- Don’t forget the trick or treat bag! Many of these events have a prepared loot bag for your kids, but it’s always handy to have your kids carry their own trick or treat bag just in case!
- Don’t let your little kids consume treats unattended. Some treats are choking hazards. Let your kids know that you will go through the treats together when you get home, so you can decide which one’s safe for them to eat.
