Two months after giving birth to her second son, Mommy Anisa found herself unhappy, overweight at 170 lbs., and extremely anxious about the ongoing pandemic. She knew that she had to do something about it. With so much going on, working out became an outlet for her to get back in shape and to release all her stress.
“When I started out, I just wanted to lose what I gained during my pregnancy,” said Mommy Anisa. But fast forward to a year and two months later, she is now fitter and stronger that her pre-pregnancy body at 129 lbs!
This is how she did it!
Many think that starting a fitness plan requires so much: cute workout clothes, exercise equipment, and several hours to spare in a day. Not until all of the “requirements” are met will they start moving. Mommy Anisa shows us that the simpler the plan, the better.
Her husband and coach knows that if a workout exhausted her too much at the beginning, the chances of her bailing out is high. So he started her on a simple plan then built on it through the days.
When Mommy Anisa decided that she wanted to get back in shape, she knew that the only way for her to get results was to stick to a schedule. So together with her husband, they decided to workout everyday for an hour except on Sundays.
It’s so easy to make excuses not to workout. It can range from blaming the kids to having too much work to do. That’s why blocking off the time and place, and staying committed to it, is so important. For Mommy Anisa, she drops everything that she’s doing every 11am. It’s her sacred time. She shares that her kids usually tag along when she and her husband do their routines. Her 4-year-old would pretend to workout with them while her 1-year-old would stay in a playpen nearby. There’s really no excuse.
Her husband prepares her workout routine and he’s also her accountability partner. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, they focus on doing metabolic conditioning exercises. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they do skills training like push ups, pull ups, and pistol squats.
Her husband knows her best. He knows that if she finds a routine too overwhelming, she won’t do it. So as her accountability partner, he also takes into account her mental and emotional state when finding ways on how to motivate her.
When you have someone to support you on your fitness journey, the load becomes lighter and the celebration for pounds shed become more fun!
Getting back in shape requires two things–movement and diet. No matter how much you exercise, if you’re eating too much or if you’re eating the wrong types of food, you’ll find it hard to get the results that you want. This is what happened to Mommy Anisa and her husband before she got pregnant. They went to the gym but didn’t quite hit their target weight. She grew stronger, yes, but for some reason, there was something lacking in their program.
Back then, Mommy Anisa ate her way to recovery every after workout. She justified it by saying, “nagworkout naman ako so okay lang kumain!” After her second pregnancy, she decided to give in to her husband’s idea to finally count calories. They started seeing results ever since!
Working out and wanting to feel better takes a lot of courage and commitment, and having the right motivation is what helps you set your eyes on the prize. For mommy Anisa, she wants to be strong for her kids that’s why she’s doing this for herself.
Working out and eating right has become second nature to Mommy Anisa after more than a year of hard work. With having to raise two boys, taking care of her husband, and managing a small tea business on the side, she knows how difficult it is to find the time and energy to workout. So when we asked for her advise to moms, she said, “I know how hard it is. I’ve been there twice. If there is any tip I can give is that you need to want it again. Kailangan mong gustuhin!” Setting a goal can challenge you to start, but a decided mind and a committed heart will help you reach that goal or even surpass it!
