If you have kids, then we’re pretty sure that you’ve heard of it—but do you actually know what TikTok is? Here are the answers to six questions you’ve been asking!
TikTok is a popular social networking app, where users can upload quick videos. The videos on the app range from crazy dance challenges, to funny skits, to awesome singing performances. It was originally called musical.ly, and was very similar to Dubsmash, as it allowed users to post lip-sync music videos.
Social media will always have its risks, so it’s still best to make sure that your kids are aware of this. Parents, make sure to turn on the proper privacy settings for accounts they are using! TikTok accounts are public by default, so anyone can see your videos and send you DMs unless you make a private account. You can also change the settings for comments, duets, reactions, and messages to just “Friends” instead of “Everyone.”
Again, it’s better to talk to your kids about this! Since anyone can upload videos to the platform, there’s a danger that they’ll see some content that may be inappropriate for their age. Parental guidance and supervision is recommended.
It’s where everyone’s been hanging out these days! A new generation of content creators are finding their voice on TikTok, and paving the way for unique creativity. A lot of celebrities have also been using TikTok to connect to their fans in a new and engaging way!
When you log in, you can search popular creators, categories, or hashtags to find videos. You can also use your phone contacts to find friends who already use the app. Some people don’t post videos but just use it to find and follow creators that they like.
It’s up to you! Let your imagination go wild. Here are some popular and wholesome TikTok challenges that have gone viral:
