8 Family Weekend Activities That You Can Do for Free!

1. Go biking

There are biking trails in and out of the metro that are perfect for leisure biking–you can try Nuvali, Filinvest, U.P. Diliman, Camp Aguinaldo, and more. Whichever spot you choose, just make sure to bring your bikes and protective gear for a kid-friendly and safe weekend for the whole family.

2. Head to the beach

There’s something so rejuvenating and energizing about being at the beach. And there are many options for what you can do there too! From simply relaxing and reading a book, to having a picnic, or playing beach volleyball, heading to the beach is always a great weekend idea. Check out Pangasinan, Zambales, Batangas, and Calatagan for some options.

3. Visit a museum

Museums are great because they make learning fun. When you visit a museum with your kids, you’re giving them a creative educational experience, which is always a good idea! Some museums you can visit are the National Museum of the Philippines, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (which has free admission on Tuesdays and free guided tours on Saturdays), the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) gallery and the Museo ni Jose Rizal in Intramuros, and the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in the College of St. Benilde, among others.

4. Have a movie marathon at home

For all the homebodies out there, this activity’s for you. Weekends don’t always have to mean going out–they can be for staying in too! So pick out your favorite movies as a family, cozy up, and binge-watch away!

5. Play some boardgames

If you want to stray away from screen time, you can opt to have a family game night (or day) instead! Bring out some game food and some classic board games like Monopoly, Scrabble, Pictionary, Uno, and Clue to play, which will be sure to get the whole family involved and laughing.

6. Have a photoshoot around BGC

Who doesn’t love artsy shots as beautiful memories? With all the graffiti walls and art installations around the metro, there are plenty of spots for your family to be able to take lots of creative photos. Check out this adorable brother and sister shoot to give you some ideas!

7. Volunteer at a local animal shelter

If your family is made up of animal lovers, volunteering at a local animal shelter would be perfect. Not only would you be able to interact and help the dogs and cats in there, you’ll be able to bond as a family too. You can try to inquire at the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), Philippine Animal Wellness Society (PAWS), Compassion and Responsibility for Animals (CARA), Mandaluyong Animal Shelter (MAS), Philippine Animal Rescue Team (PART), Purr Haven Cats, or Happy Animals Club to see if they need any help.

8. Visit an orphanage

It’s important to teach your children the value of sharing your blessings. You can share your time by visiting an orphanage and interacting with the kids there and you can share your material blessings as well by giving away clothes, toys, and books you no longer use. Some orphanages you can try visiting and donating to are Saint Rita’s Orphanage, White Cross Children’s Home, Virlanie Foundation Philippines, Children’s Joy Foundation Inc., and more!
