We’re letting you in on a little secret. We kind of have an obsession with paper flowers. So we asked master crafter Victoria Velasco to make some of these pretties, and my, oh my, were we delighted to the brim!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Paper (choose your own color scheme!)
  • Crepe paper, ribbon or paint
  • Circle shape (can be made from wire or cardboard; in this example, we use an embroidery hoop)
  • Scissors
  • Glue (and optional paintbrush to apply glue)
  • Needle and thick thread or glue gun and yarn

Step 1: Fold a piece of paper into half its size several times, until you get layers.

Step 2: Cut a petal shape within the size of the folded layers to get several petals of the same size.

Step 3: Cut a small slit at the bottom of the petals. You will get two flaps.

Step 4: Stick one flap over the other, to raise the top part of the petals. It is recommended to apply the glue with a paintbrush, so as not to get your hands messy when putting the whole craft together.

Step 5: You can also curl the outward edges of the petals to give the paper flowers a more romantic look.

Step 6: Put the petals together at their center, with equal distances between each petal.

Step 7: Our examples have flowers with three layers each–feel free to put more petals in each layer! Also, get creative with your petals by experimenting with different shapes like pointed ones, rounded ones, etc.

Step 8: Create a full paper flower by putting layers together! You can also add leaves to your design to add accents.

Next up is the base.

Step 9: Decorate your circle shape with the same colors as the flowers. You can do this by covering it with ribbon, crepe paper or paint!

Step 10: With yarn or thick thread, tie some string where your mobile will hang from.

Step 11: Attach the flowers to the circular shape using yarn or thick thread. Take note that you should hang the flowers facing down (to the baby)!

Stick yarn to the bottom of each flower using a glue gun, or thread through the center of the flower with a needle and thick thread.

Step 12: Hang the flowers facing down in varying lengths from the circle shape. You can also hang the flowers from a hanger.

You now have the most adorable mobile ever!!!
